Humanity First!

Saving a life is like saving the humanity as a whole! Hence, any service even to the size of a mustard seed given to a needy may makes us better than the one who has accumulated so much wealth for nothing!

Ramadan Mubarak! The purpose of Ramadan!

So remember yesterday I asked you the question. How do you go about being the best version of yourself during Ramadan, without losing balance across your roles?

One of the common challenges of Ramadan is us wanting to ‘do more’ during Ramadan and to get spiritual stuff done. Everyone wants to:

  • Finish the Quran at least once
  • Pray taraweeh each night in the masjid
  • Pray tahajjud during the last 10 nights (at least on the odd nights)

We’ve basically turned Ramadan into a 30-day challenge of trying to get as many reward points as we can.

Although this mindset is well-intentioned (trying to get us to do as much as we can) but I sometimes wonder if it makes us forget the bigger purpose of Ramadan of achieving God-consciousness (Taqwa) through transforming who we are and our core relationship with Allah (SWT).

Perhaps if we think of Ramadan, not as another to-do list, but as a powerful incubator for change and growth, to become better version of ourselves for the sake of Allah (SWT), it can help us maximize our experience of Ramadan whilst achieving balance across our roles.

What if Ramadan is not about what you do, but who you become by the end of it?

  • Who you become as a Muslim?
  • Who you become as a Professional?
  • Who you become as a Father/Mother?
  • Who you become as a Son/Daughter?

The question then is: How to design this transformative experience on a personal and human level for yourself?
